Genealogy meets weekly on Monday in the Silvercom Computer Room between 10- 11:30 AM

You must be a SilvercomCTC member to attend.

As a new member of Silvercom Computer and Technology Club (Silvercom CTC), your introduction to the Club may be the Monday meetings. The Monday morning meetings consist of programs on a variety of technological topics including photography, use of the Mesa Library, email usage, computer software, computer security, GPS use, and technology in other parts of our lives. However, there are several other components to the Club.

Photography instruction and information sharing, including some field trips, are a large part of the club. The Camera Club is open to anyone at any time with an interest in digital photography. The Taking, Editing, and Organizing Great Photos with Any Device class, taught by Geoff Kane, and the Photoshop Elements class, taught by Mike Folker, are also available. The Photography Contest in February/March is a fun time for all, photographers and viewers alike.

A G-mail class will be taught by Ron Brown this year. We rely on Katie Gertz, professional computer teacher, to handle other classes. Her teaching style includes explanations, visual presentations on a screen, distribution of written material, and offering in-class help to students. This year she is teaching a 4-session iPhone class, Beginning iPad and Advanced iPad classes, and a Windows 10 class. There is a student fee for each of the classes.

Silvercom CTC also encourages free, more informal Special Interest Groups such as Camera Club, already mentioned, as well as genealogy, android devices, all Apple devices, and possibly Windows 10. These discussion groups meet regularly but you may come when you wish, and there is no fee to belong. Maybe you will have an idea for a Special Interest Group. Just let President Carol Folker or Program Chair Ron Brown know.

Every Friday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. free help is offered in our Computer Classroom, near the Activities Office, for Club members. You can bring your troubled equipment or your questions to Silvercom CTC’s resident experts. By December, most of the experts have arrived in the park. Most of the club experts prefer not to make house calls, but to help you on Fridays instead.

We do not currently have a Beginning Computing class. For problems with computer set-up and specific task assistance, please come to Friday afternoon help sessions. The first Monday meeting of every month includes a Troubleshooting Q&A time. You can bring your questions there, too. The Mesa Library system offers beginning classes monthly as well as short classes on other computer topics. Just google “Events at Mesa Public Library AZ” for a monthly calendar of events, including classes.

Silvercom CTC members also enjoy social events: a Welcome Coffee on the day of the first meeting on November 7, 2016, a Christmas party, a Donut Day in January, and an End-of-Year party in March.

Our fundraiser is a chili dinner for the park, held in early February, and requiring a lot of us to make it happen. Having a food handler’s license is a plus when you help with this event. More information about this license will be presented prior to the fundraiser and is also available from the Activities Office

Please consider this YOUR club. There is something for everyone interested in computers and/or technology. If you have concerns or questions about your club or suggestions to make for your club, please contact the President, Carol Folker, by email at or phone her at 480-924-1635.
